Jin Wang

renowned Conductor & Professor

  • The China-born Austrian conductor Jin Wang belongs to the most distinguished artists of the present. Winner of 8 leading international competitions in Europe, among them “Prague Spring” in Czech Republic (Rafael Kubelik), “Malko” in Copenhagen and „Toscanini” in Parma, Italy etc. Jin Wang studied conducting at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music and at the Vienna Music University, with Karl Österreicher, Leopold Hager, Zubin Mehta and Leonard Bernstein. Former assistant of Peter Eötvös and Vaclav Neumann. In Europe, Jin Wang worked with about 100 orchestras. He was appointed First Conductor at the Komische Oper Berlin and General Music Director "GMD" of the Mainfranken Opera House and Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany. In Asia he was guest of many top-orchestras, such as the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, the Seoul Philharmonic, the Singapore Symphonic, the Taiwan National Symphonic, the China Philharmonic in Beijing etc.

  • He conducted the European tour of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and he organised several orchestra tours to China. Jin Wang is also one of the first China-born conductors who was awarded Professor for Conduct and Orchestra Education in Europe (Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm). He worked as a Guest Professor at the Music Universities in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Czech Republic, Bucharest etc. In November 2017 he was invited to hold seminars at the Vienna Music University. Among his most successful students are Tomas Netopil, Josep Caballe and Eivind Gulberg-Jensen. He is giving Masterclasses for conductors, for instrumentalists and for Opera singers in China, in Vienna, Czech Republic and Romania. He is invited as a Jury member to renowned competitions, such as “Grzegorz Fitelberg” in Poland and “Jorma Panula” in Finland.

Jorma Panula

renowned Professor & Conductor

  • Born in Finland, Jorma Panula was the artistic director and chief conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1965, the Helsinki Philharmonic from 1965 to 1972 and the Aarhus Symphony from 1970 to 1973. He has been a frequent guest conductor of the Finnish National Opera. Panula was Professor of Conducting at the Sibelius Academy from 1973 to 1994 and the faculties of the Stockholm Royal Academy and the Copenhagen Royal Academy.Panula studied churchmusic and conducting at the Sibelius Academy. His teachers have been: Leo Funtek, Dean Dixon, Albert Wolff and Franco Ferrara.

  • Aside from conducting, he has composed a wide variety of music. His operas Jaako Ilkka and the River Opera established a genre entitled "performance opera" for its fusion of music, visual art and the art of daily life. Panula other compositions include musicals, churchmusic, a violon concerto, jazz capriccio and nummerous pieces of vocal music. He is now a guest conductor and professor for conducting courses all over the world including Paris, London, Amsterdam, Moscow, New York, Tanglewood, Aspen, Ottawa and Sydney.

The Conducting Competition

Location: National University of Music, Strada Știrbei Vodă 33, București 03016, Romania - Auditorium Hall, new building/4th floor. For the Competition: the arrival day is 25th of July. The general meeting starts at 09:00pm for all competitors. Welcoming ceremony, information about competition and draw of lot. The Competition's final round with symphony concert and award gala will take place on July 28 at 19:00.

The Competition repertoire will be divided by rounds, accordingly:

One concert with the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra within the 2019/2020 season plus one concert with other major Romanian orchestra within the 2019/2020 season.
